MUNGER: Remember the March 2012 incident in which a woman was dragged out of the car in which she was travelling with husband and others and killed near Lakhisarai by contract killers allegedly hired by husband who wanted to marry his sister-in-law?
The court of Lakhisarai additional district judge K K Agrawal on Thursday awarded life term to seven convicts for the murder. They include victim Sunaina Barnwal's 35-year-old husband Naresh Barnwal who worked as a life insurance agent at Jharia in Dhanbad and Sunaina's 25-year-old cousin sister Khushboo whom Naresh wanted to marry. The others are Basant Singh, Vinay Singh, Vicky Singh, Jitendra Singh and Ram Pravesh Singh who were hired by Naresh to help him get rid of his wife.
The court pronounced them guilty on Wednesday. According to the prosecution, Sunaina along with family members was going to her in-laws' place at Jharia from her mother's house at Gaya via Rajgir and Jamui by a car. The driver had to apply brakes soon after crossing Sirkhindi village on finding barriers on the Sheikhpura-Sikendra road in Lakhisarai district. Five men came near the vehicle and dragged Sunaina to bushes where she was raped at gunpoint and shot.
While a wailing Naresh blamed it on road robbers, Sunaina's brother Rajesh Barnwal submitted a petition to the Gaya SSP, alleging his sister was killed by husband with the help of criminals. The SSP sent the petition to Lakhisarai police.
Police investigation found Naresh plotted the killing of his wife because she was against his liaison with Khushboo. Naresh was arrested from Jharia on March 28, three days after the killing while Khushboo was arrested from Gaya the following day.
Ram Pravesh and Khushboo, though on bail, appeared in the court on Thursday and were taken into custody after the judgment. The others were not granted bail.
