New Delhi: Swashbuckling Indian batsman Virat Kohli, not known for hiding emotions, questioned captain Mahendra Singh Dhonis leadership ability in a veiled attack, saying the players were not able to express themselves and that shows in teams performance on field.
"Credit goes to the Bangladesh team for the way they have played. We are not expressing ourselves like we normally do and are used to," he said in a TV interview.
He said he was not too happy with decision making: "Not too happy with the way we have played. We have been sort of doubtful in our decision-making and that shows on the field."
"I don't need to say it in an interview; our cricket watchers and experts can see it (that) our guys are not sure enough to express themselves. In the first two games, we failed to express ourselves with clarity of mind," Kohli said.
The comments came a day after R Ashwin expressed his support for his beleaguered captain.
"If you don't go behind your leader (now), then when will you? So as far as I am concerned, it's like an army if you don't go behind your leader, then you are definitely going to get shot. If my captain asks me to die on the field, I'll do it," the off-spinner said.
The recent comments indicate a brewing battle in Indian Teams dressing room.
The private coaches of India's limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Test captain Virat Kohli have spoken to TV channels, giving indications that all is not well in the dressing room.
Dhoni's coach Chanchal Bhattacharjee told a TV channel that the Indian skipper was "tense". "The dressing room atmosphere is worrying him, he is not able to concentrate on the game."
Within hours of Bhattacharjee's comments, Kohli's coach Raj Kumar Sharma was seen on another channel describing the One-Day International (ODI) series loss to Bangladesh as "the most humiliating thing for Indian cricket".
"I have no hesitation it was the Black Sunday of Indian cricket," Sharma said.
Sharma did not blame Dhoni's captaincy for the defeat as some cricket writers in India have suggested - his choice of players and his on-field decisions. But some cricket analysts in India see in the 'war of coaches' a bigger problem - that Dhoni and Kohli are not pulling on well.
